Bono on... (1)

The next posts will contain words by Bono, the leader of the band U2, on issues related with Christianity. His mother Iris was Anglican and his father Brendan was Catholic. He seems to be half-Anglican half-Catholic, but totally Christian. Bear with me. He married Alison Hewson in 1982 in the Church of Ireland. At the same time, he demonstrates reverence for the Catholic Church and says that he finds reassurance in her.

It is evident for anyone who listens carefully that Christian imagery permeates his lyrics. I quote him not because what he says is exemplary, but because it is rare. It is rare to hear a music artist dwell on the subject of God and faith and go beyond saying that he or she is grateful to God for his or her success. In these quotes, he displays his heart — that is, his doubts and convictions.
